An experiment was designed to investigate whether Drugs A and B can be used to reduce blood pressure

Use SPSS to answer the questions below. Interpret the output: running the test alone will not give you full credit.  Keep in mind the requirements spelled out at the beginning of this assignment as well for any hypothesis testing questions.

1. An experiment was designed to investigate whether Drugs A and B can be used to reduce blood pressure. The data on the reduction of blood pressure are given below.
        Drug
        A B  C
Male    30%    10%  5%
    20% 15%  3%
            35% 25%  12%
  Gender
Female 15% 20%  6%
       22% 12%  7%
       32% 25% 10%
a. Identify the experimental design.
b. Is this a balanced design? Explain.
c. Write out an appropriate statistical model.
d. Run the analysis using SPSS
To begin the SPSS analysis, enter the data in a different way. Enter the percentage BP reduction one column. Label Drug A as 1, Drug B as 2 and Drug C as 3, and enter each in a column. In the same way, label Male as 0 and Female as 1, and enter the data column wise.
e. Use the output test for interactions and main effects.
f. Are the differences in mean reduction of blood pressure for the three drugs the same for the two genders?  Please explain why you have answered as you have.
g. Construct a profile plot. What do the data suggest?  Is this what the statistical analysis in part e showed?
h. Use Tukey’s procedure to compare the blood pressure reduction for the three drugs, A, B and C.

2. A study was conducted to determine which temperature will give the maximum yield in a manufacturing process. The manufacturing unit was run at 10oC for the first month, 20oC for the second, and 30oC for the third. The given data are on the yield (in tonnes) from a random sample of 15 days from each temperature level.
Temperature
10oC 20oC 30oC

43 48 47
46 43 43
59 54 45
49 43 34
54 52 32
52 51 45
48 47 45
49 52 48

47 43 42
56 45 41
55 49 47
47 48 47
51 50 46
a. Is this an observational study or an experimental study? Explain.
b. Identify the experimental design.
c. Write out an appropriate statistical model.
d. Check whether the conditions to run the analysis are met. Explain.
e. Assuming all conditions are met, run the analysis using SPSS.
f. Use the output test to determine whether there are any differences in mean production at the different temperatures.
g. Use Tukey’s procedure to compare the differences in mean production at the different temperatures.

Hint
Statistics"There are various prerequisites to selecting an appropriate statistical model. First, defining each variable’s measurement level necessitating inclusion in the analysis is inevitable. Second, a clarification of what one wants to find out is indispensable. Third, power analysis or sample size calculation obtains direct relation to the chosen statistical test."...
